Just state that you appreciate how Jehovah is providing for his people in this time of the end. You can use that line from now til kingdom come.

I don't know what made be buy the Universal Sovereignty argument for the permission of evil
by gubberningbody in...but it seems foundational to any intelligent investing in a religion.. i you can't provide a morally upright reason for the permission of evil without just having the deity pull rank and declare himself righteous, then i'm not really interested in hearing any more.. were i to listen, it would be out of morbid curiosity, not out of any intent to invest..

I think it made us feel good to think we were standing up for Jehovah. To take a stand for God's universal sovereignty made us feel like we had a part in correcting all that is wrong in the world.
good points you guys

Reading peoples hearts
by highdose inhi.
this is inspired by another thread, but heres something that always bugged me.... if god wanted to know if abraham really was faithful... then why didn't he use his abilty to look into his heart and find out?
instead of putting the poor man and his son through a near death/ murder situation??

God can't read..... lol.
Good point. So much of religious teachings doesn't make sense. I believe that if there is a God, he should be more knowledgeable and powerful than his creatures. Therefore, should be above games.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT- CULTURE
by serenitynow! inso as not to hijack another thread i decided that a thread on culture could be useful.
i'd like to provide a safe place for people to talk about cultural norms or abnormals.
you don't want to learn that you've done or said the wrong thing by gettin' a fist in the face, know what i'm saying?.

"People are so concerned about political correctness that they make comments that serve to alienate groups even further."
I agree. This is especially true when someone takes it upon themselves to speak for an entire group of people. To treat people with common decency and courtesy is not difficult. To get to know others as individuals takes a little more work. Those who are fortunate enough to have broad social connections whether through their neighborhood, schooling, travel, etc. quickly come to learn that there are very few rules regarding "race".

It's obviously important not to intentionally offend others.
However, no one person can speak for an entire group of people. No matter who they are.
All things do not apply to all people all the time.

Michael Jackson---What Was Your Opinion Of Him?
by minimus ina year ago, mj suddenly died.
for years, multitudes of people said michael jackson was a "sicko" a "wacko", a "child molester" and an "addict".. once he died, the man was glorified by people, the media and his family.. what did you think about michael?.....personally, i thought he was an eccentric ultra-gifted artist who was childlike and brilliant.
i was never convinced that he was a child molester but i will say i thought his behavior was "weird" with kids (and adults)..

There'll never be another MJ. Unbelieveable talent. I think he was put on high and once the accusations started he was mercilessly knocked off his pedastal. He was clearly disturbed and may have had judgement issues with children. But he also seemed to have a huge heart and lots of compassion.
His fans never gave up on him even if they made fun of him. The media was awful to him. That always made me sad. No one deserves that.

I don't think supporters like to hear or discuss anything critical. I don't quite get taking government encumbents' successes or failures personally. They're just people trying to do good. No one is above criticism. I started a thread yesterday about what was expected of O and I didn't have many responses. I thought supporters would have had lots to say.

We bought land!
by Aussie Oz inwe bought land!.
some of you might remember a delema i had a couple of months ago over buying a house... and gave lots of great advice.. well, we ended up buying a large block of land (modern developers would cram 8 houses on it) one hour outside the city in a really nice little town of only 250 people.
the block has an 1860 ruin on it that looks like an old school or church.

Aussie - that is great! Good use of money and sounds like you got a hell of a deal. Congrats! We're looking to buy land in the next few years. Need a more temperate climate than Ohio.
